Calm

Breathe in,

Breathe out.

Breathe in,

Breathe out.

As life grows more tense,

Here in NYC,

As the city feels,

Like the world is crashing down around us,

I find myself going deep within.

It is a constant reminder,

To breathe in,

Breathe out.

I tell myself,

We will get through this.

This, too, shall pass.

Breathe in,

Breathe out.

I try to calm the worries.

I try to slow the world around me,

By centering myself when need be.

We are in this as a planet.

We are in this together.

I close my eyes,

And I imagine,

Breathing in,

And breathing out.

Lots of love to my fellow…well…everyone out there. Times are going to be very hard, but we will prevail. We must. I’d love to say I’m some sort of zen master, but that’s just not true…Ironically, as I was writing this poem, I was constantly envisioning Star Trek’s Vulcans and their serene nature. I know that’s off topic, but I hope it gives you all a chuckle during these pressure-filled times. Have a great night!

P.S. Somehow I’m on a night sky beach phase. Maybe it’s my body telling me that I need to listen to that when all of this is over and travel is safer. Hmmm…

RDP Sunday: South Seas, An Ode

Bermuda, Bermuda,

On my mind.

Every day’til the end of time.

Your sand on my skin,

Your sea in my veins.

Your sun in my heart,

Always remains.

Your beautiful sunsets,

Your spirit so kind.

Your beaches are the perfect place

For me to unwind.

Ironically, I’ve only been to Bermuda once (and I know it’s not in the South Seas but I couldn’t stop myself). It left such a deep impression on me that I can’t keep away from it. I’m an outdoors girl, at heart, so I’m at home by the sea and the mountains, too. I can’t wait to go back!

RDP Saturday: Air

I love summer. I love the ocean. I love island life. I love the breeziness of the ocean air. I love the relaxing feeling that comes over people during a perfect summer evening; where the sun is setting, you’re enjoying dinner by the beach, sharing a laugh with family and friends, etc. It’s tranquil. It’s fulfilling. The light summer breeze gently blowing, it’s perfect. The air is perfect. It’s got a small scent of the ocean and the sand wafting through the community. You can smell freedom in the air. You can smell salt, fish, and hear seagulls squawking, their voices carried on the light, summer air. I love the summer air. It’s peaceful. I can’t wait for this air; for the beach. I can’t wait to feel the relaxation that only a small, quiet, relaxing beach community can bring. Those summer nights are perfect. My ode to this experience was the first thing that popped into my mind when I thought of air!
