Sand Castles By the Sea

Oh, who wouldn’t want to make a sand castle by the sea?

Just relaxing,

Just you and me.

I love the breeze,

Running through my hair.

I love the feel,

Of the balmy air.

I love the summer nights so sweet.

I love the sand beneath my feet.

I love the endless ocean waves,

I feel they go for days and days.

I love the feeling, oh so free,

Of just “being,” you and me.

P.S. This post could not have come at a better time, as my mother reminded me via such a happy picture of the two of us, that this time last year we were in Bermuda, one of my favorite places on the planet. The culture and the environment there are like none other. I can’t wait to go back someday!

Pronounce

Pronounce. Pronounce…Pronounce? What do I do with pronounce? The obvious comes to mind, but I’m not sure I feel like writing the obvious today. Given what is going on in my life with volunteering, I find myself talking to many different people in NYC on the phone, and I sometimes get caught off-guard when I think that I’m being very clear, but I get a swift reminder that maybe I am not, and how important communication is. That’s the obvious. Now for the not so obvious thing to write about.

Color.

Words.

Music.

Sound.

Tone.

What do all of these words have in common?

They all are a part of,

How I define pronunciation.

How does the voice sound?

What color would you associate the tone with?

Music.

Speaking and singing both contain music.

How you pronounce something,

Has a certain music to it.

A certain tone.

Can you hear exactly how the word is pronounced?

Can you hear every part of the word?

Every syllable?

How does it sound when each syllable is combined?

Can you feel the warmth in someone’s voice?

Or is it gravelly?

How do those two,

Effect the sound.

Exactly.

It’s all…

Pronunciation.

What is True?

Truth. What is true? Let’s ruminate on that for a moment. The first thing that came to mind when I read today’s prompt word truth, is about something that has absolutely nothing to do with the word true. In fact, I’m not even sure I can accurately describe it, but I’ll try. Truth is…complex. What is true for me may not be true for you. That’s crazy, right? I mean, how many different truths could there possibly be? The TRUTH is…I think there are many.

Truth.

What is true?

Is it a feeling,

Deep Inside?

Is it linear?

Is it one size fits all?

Is there really only one truth?

How will we ever know?

Science can answer many of our questions,

About that I am certain.

Logic is absolutely real.

Emotion is magic.

It grows and changes.

It can make you do the most daring things.

It can do the opposite.

Emotions are different for each one of us.

Our hearts feel different.

Our minds interpret the same feelings differently.

So is there one universal truth for everyone?

I’ll leave that open for you to decide for yourself.

My answer,

Quite plainly,

Is no.

Emotional truth is different for everyone.

Everyone is having a different experience.

It’s quite fascinating,

Really.

The key thing to do,

Is to listen.

Be open-minded.

Be compassionate.

Be kind.

Be open-hearted.

Be true to you.

Fly High! RDP: Sunday

Can’t is a word that I often said.

Can’t is a word that was stuck in my head.

Can’t was a cop-out,

A way to get by,

While letting life,

Pass me right by.

But what if I could,

Asks the engine inside.

What if I found,

I could no longer hide?

Then what would happen?

Would I look up at the sky?

Would I grab the opportunities

That were passing me by?

Would I fly like an eagle,

Or soar like a bird?

Or would I be afraid

They would think I’m absurd?

But if I’m like a bird

I belong in the sky.

Not stuck on the ground,

So eager to fly.

My wings are not broken,

They’re simply afraid,

But now I must try

For what I was made.

RDP Sunday: Earth’s Masterpiece

sky-earth-space-working-2156What is a masterpiece?

Does a masterpiece mean perfection?

Does it mean a lack of error?

The world is full of errors.

The world is also full of blessings.

It’s full of compassion.

It’s full of miracles.

Things exist that shouldn’t be able to.

It’s luck, yes or no?

The odds were stacked against human creation.

Yet here we are.

Time and time again the earth has adapted.

It’s grown.

Everything works in some sort of harmony,

Beautiful or not.

It’s all scientifically connected.

Art, music, you name it.

It’s all science.

It all works together,

Hand in hand.

It’s as if the earth itself is an orchestra conductor

And humans, animals, plants, etc.,

Are the violins, the cellos, each different section.

Yet it all comes together with earth conducting the show.

In all its errors, the existence of the orchestra is a masterpiece.

RDP Saturday: Hope

Hope.

Like a candle.

Hope…knows.

Like faith.

Hope…grows.

Like a flame burning bright,

During the darkest of times.

Pardon my odd poem, which is what you could call it, I guess. The second I thought of hope I had this visual of a candle shimmering in the dark and keeping our faith burning bright. Hope
